Tripp Otto

Attorney

  • LinkedIn - White Circle

Tripp started his legal career in the Army JAG Corps with the 82nd Airborne Division, with work both at Fort Bragg and in Kandahar Afghanistan.  Tripp successfully prosecuted several cases, including a complex murder trial involving the rules of engagement. He moved on to serve as a Brigade Judge Advocate, advising a commander on all facets of the law and ethics. After completing the LL.M. Program at the Army JAG School, Tripp was selected to stay on and instruct JAGs and Commanders of all ranks in Humanitarian Law, better known as the Law of War.

Following his army career, Tripp decided to settle down in Charlottesville, where he could establish more permanent roots with his family. Tripp joined Rawls Law Group for the opportunity to work with and represent clients through the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program, as well as Veterans with claims against the federal government. His background of trial litigation and Army service enables him to expertly understand and represent clients facing the complexity of claims against the Federal Government.

Prior to attending the University of Minnesota Law School, Tripp served as an Infantry Officer in the Army. His Infantry assignments include 3 years in the 1st Ranger Battalion, and 4 deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan as a Platoon Leader and an Executive Officer.

Tripp is also proud to be one of the founders of Charlottesville Tree Service and continues to help actively manage the business. He is an ISA Certified Arborist and can occasionally still be spotted up in a tree.

Tripp received his commission in the Army from West Point in 2003. He and his wife both started out in Minnesota, and now enjoy their hobby farm and raising their 10 children just outside of beautiful Charlottesville.
